Essential Elements: Selenium and vitamins C and E work together to reinforce the defense barrier of the skin. Zinc, a trace element, has been shown to come to the rescue when skin is damaged. Lactoferrin, a naturally occurring defense protein, can help fight microbial infection, including Propionibacterium acnes, a skin bacterium linked to the formation of acne. Vitamin E, selenium and zinc are also thought to help reduce inflammation. Antioxidants including Vitamin C, Vitamin E, beta carotene and the trace element selenium, aim to neutralize free radicals before they can damage the skin.
