Essential Elements: Selenium and vitamins C and E work together to reinforce the defense barrier of the skin. Zinc, a trace element, has been shown to come to the rescue when skin is damaged. Lactoferrin, a naturally occurring defense protein, can help fight microbial infection, including Propionibacterium acnes, a skin bacterium linked to the formation of acne. Vitamin E, selenium and zinc are also thought to help reduce inflammation.
